American and Israeli Researchers Developing New Wireless Transmission Technology

A team of American and Israeli researchers announced recently that they have found a new way to transmit data wirelessly. This new method will allow computers to transfer 2.5 terabits of information per second, 8,000 times faster than Verizon’s fastest home internet connection. By twisting the electromagnetic waves that usually carry data into vortex beams, researchers are able to transmit massive volumes of data very quickly. Researchers from Tel Aviv University and the University of Southern California, and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab together have twisted eight data streams, allowing them to transmit 2.5 terabits of data per second. This technique can be used to twist together slower data connections to speed up the process as a whole, potentially providing a solution to the impending bandwidth crisis. In May the Government of Israel Economic Mission, together with the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute, hosted a group of Israeli companies at the 2012 CTIA Conference in New Orleans with telecommunication and other mobile technology.  To learn more about the companies that participated and other companies and research from Israel in this field contact Ari Rokni.
